Confidentiality Agreement

  1. Confidentiality Agreement

Definitions

Confidential Information: is information that an individual has disclosed in a relationship of trust with the expectation that it will not be divulged to others in ways that are inconsistent with the understanding of the original disclosure.

Confidentiality: is the treatment of confidential information so that it is not divulged in ways that are inconsistent with the understanding of the original disclosure.

Agreement
It is of the utmost importance to ensure the confidentiality of all shared protocols, case definitions used in respective organizations and real-life case scenarios from existing data sets, among participants in working groups of the Brighton Collaboration. The Brighton Collaboration encourages collaboration which protects the intellectual rights of potential participants.

Discussions which occur during Brighton Collaboration conference calls in working groups are typically recorded in minutes, and are posted on the Brighton Collaboration public website after approval by the respective working group. Posted on the Brighton Collaboration intranet are all case definition and guidelines documents, agenda and
minutes of conference calls, literature searches including case definitions, participant information and case scenarios, which are developed and shared amongst and between Brighton Collaboration staff and participants. Access to the intranet for the Brighton Collaboration is user-ID specific and password protected to ensure that those documents cannot be accessed by unauthorized parties. However, the user-ID and password specific access to the intranet is not able to prevent individuals from discussing information shared in Brighton Collaboration discussions (be
it by e-mail or on conference calls) outside of the respective working group, nor can it prevent individuals from downloading documents from the intranet and distributing these documents to outside parties. Such unauthorized behaviors and/or discussions will seriously undermine the Collaboration’s vital vaccine adverse events safety research efforts. Therefore, this document proposes guidelines for Brighton Collaboration working
group and other participating persons to abide by during their participation in the Brighhton Collaboration.

For purposes of this document, Brighton Collaboration participants are defined as those
persons, who participate in Brighton Collaboration conference calls as working group members developing case definitions and guidelines, consultants to working groups, steering committee members and staff of the Collaboration or those assisting participants.

In order to provide a confidential work environment for all Brighton Collaboration participants, it is necessary that each participant agrees to the following provisions:

All recipients of Brighton Collaboration documents agree to hold information shared as confidential information by participants such as case information for case scenarios and organizational case definitions and protocols confidential, sharing with consultants and other possible collaborators only with the permission of the working group coordinator or until such time provided by the person sharing the information.

To protect the intellectual rights, confidential case information or protocols shall not be adapted or used by the Brighton Collaboration without permission of the participant sharing this information.
